How to Fix a Toaster

The toaster is one of today's most popular and most used household appliances. Toast with peanut butter and jam, toast with bacon and eggs, pop tarts, and waffles; these are things that many of us eat every morning. Most of us don't realize how much we actually use our toaster until something goes wrong with it. If something has gone wrong with your toaster and you are wondering how to fix it than you have come to the right place. We will begin by speaking about common problems with toasters and how to prevent them from occurring. Then, we will speak about how to fix a toaster if a problem should still arise even after taking all precautions.

Let us begin by speaking about common problems that arise with toasters and how we can prevent them from creating an even larger problem. The most common problem that occurs with toasters is a build up of crumbs. Not only can this cause internal issues but it can also lead to a fire hazard. Luckily, this problem is easy to prevent. Many toasters nowadays come with slides on the bottom of the toaster that catch crumbs, making it easy for you to clean out. If you take the time to clean this compartment out each time you make toast it will be easy to avoid any problems. If you do not have this slide, wait for the toaster to cool down, unplug it, and clean out the crumbs.

You can also avoid problems with your toaster by making sure you care for and use it properly. When cleaning your toaster, never shake it, turn it upside down, or immerse it in water. Doing so will cause many problems that may not be fixable. Also, one thing many people do, but that should not be done, is pop up the toast while it is in the middle of the heating cycle. Make sure to set the toaster to the proper setting beforehand to prevent having to do this.

Although a toaster is cheap to buy, if a problem arises, you may still want to try a few small things before buying a new one. Before doing anything to your toaster always make sure it is unplugged and not heated. If the electrical components inside of the toaster appear to be burnt, try removing the burnt areas very gently with a piece of sand paper. If anything appears to be seriously damaged or melted together you may need to buy a new toaster. If nothing appears to be burnt, press the toasters lever and check to see if the two sets of contacts inside the toaster touch firmly. If they do not, adjust them with needle nose pliers. Once finished, assemble the toaster and retest it.

Fixing a toaster is usually an easy task. However, it is even easier to prevent the problem than to fix it. If you make sure to always clean out your toaster once you have finished using it, if you never turn your toaster upside down or immerse it in water, and if you never stop your toaster in the middle of a heating cycle then the lifespan of your toaster will definitely be much longer than most others.
